About

Our story.

British Fanzine of the Year 2012 & 2019

First published in 1989 when Manchester United was very different to the corporate beast it has become, United We Stand is an independent voice of Manchester United supporters.

Award-winning and best-selling, we've published over 300 issues — 11 per season — and been named British Fanzine of the Year in 2012 and 2019. UWS continues to be the authentic voice of match-going Reds.

The majority of UWS writers watch Manchester United home and away. They're influential, incisive, irreverent and work for a mag which is proudly independent and funded by sales. Each issue features 44 pages and tells it like it is at MUFC.

Questions.

Who edits United We Stand?

Andy Mitten, who has edited UWS since 1989 and watches United home and away. Andy writes for The Athletic and The National, appears on the BBC and Sky, and has written for FourFourTwo, GQ, ESPN, the South China Morning Post and the Manchester Evening News.

Has Andy Mitten written any books?

Fourteen, mostly about Manchester United. His players' histories of Old Trafford in the 70s (United! United!), 80s (We're the Famous Man United) and 90s (Glory Glory!) were followed in 2024 by Bring On United (HarperNorth), on the noughties.

How often is UWS published?

Eleven times a season: ten regular issues during the football season and a summer special in mid-June. Each issue has 44 pages.

When does my subscription start?

With the next issue. Copies are posted directly from the printers, so we can't backdate. If you miss the deadline, which we publish across our social media accounts and in the mag, your subscription starts from the issue after.

Can I read UWS digitally?

Yes, on the web, iOS or Android through Exact Editions, from £7.99 a quarter or £29.99 a year. A digital subscription includes the full archive.

Is there a UWS podcast?

Yes. The United We Stand podcast has interviews, post-match commentary and analysis with the UWS team, on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and any podcast app.
